PC parts are software?......LOL

My intention wasn't to use this blog as a place for this kind of stuff but I experienced something the other day which I just had to share.

Everyone that knows me, knows, that am a bit of a geek. This tends to mean i become the problem solver for those around me when it comes to anything tech related. Now i expect people in university to at least know a few basic things about computers. Especially when they go to the same uni as me, since computer literacy is a big deal their.

Anyway, enough background info.

I bump into one of the guys i shared a class with last sem, well...more like he yelled at me stop from across the campus as i was heading to class.
He explained that he heard i was good with PC's and such and need my help.
So far no surprise, i just assumed he need help with some software on his laptop or something. but what came next made me want to cry....from laughing to hard(of course not to his face, am not that evil).

it was something along the lines of:
am trying to play some games on my comp but they won't work. and one of my friends said i need a graphics card and i should come to you for one.

now i was thinking, "wait a sec, where did he get the impression he can get one from me?...i ain't giving you mine!"

then when i asked for clarification he explains that he was hoping that i can this "graphics card" thing and that he was hopping it was some software he could just install and make the games work.

SERIOUSLY?!?!?

So i had to explain what a graphics card is and that i need more info on his machine, so i could help. The most he could tell me is that its a HP...right.
So i gave him instruction to get the info i needed but i have a feeling he didn't quite get me.

Am just surprised considering how much computers are a part of our every day lives, a lot of people still know nothing beyond the brand of the machine they own.
considering that its mandatory in my uni to do a basic IT course, he really didn't have much of an excuse either.
